About Chengdu

Chengdu, located in southwest China, is the capital of Sichuan province. More than four thousand years ago, the prehistoric Bronze Age culture of Jinsha established itself in this region. The fertile Chengdu Plain, on which Chengdu is located, is called Tianfuzhi guo in Chinese, which means “the country of heaven”, or more often described as “the Land of Abundance”.

Chengdu

In addition to its profound historical and cultural background featuring historic places such a the Thatched Cottage of Du Fu, the Wuhou Memorial Temple, and the Wenshu Monastery, natural beauty abounds in surrounding areas such as in the Jiuzhaigo Scenic Area and Huang Long Valley (Yellow Dragon Valley). Chengdu is also known as the city of cotton-rose hibiscus, and the habitat of the giant pandas, with the Chengdu Panda Breeding and Research Center, supporting the world’s only giant panda breeding and research base.

Chengdu is famous for its relaxed and laid-back lifestyle. Sampling the famous Sichuan cuisine is a must. Enjoying the food, as well as the culture, shopping and having tea at a teahouse afford a deeper understanding of Chengdu. Foot and body massage is very popular, with parlors catering to individual or groups, while relaxing in private rooms, as customers are served fruits and hot/cold tea or soft drink.

Described as “Silicon Valley” of China, Chengdu is one of the most important economic centers, transportation, and communication hubs in Western China. It was recently named China’s fourth most livable city by China Daily. It’s early successes came in manufacturing, but the city has quickly moved to software, biomedical, financial services, IT, and other high-tech industries. This movement has been bolstered by the government’s 1991 establishment of the Chengdu Hi-Tech Development Zone (where Frontier’s facility is located), an area designed to be the R&D and manufacturing base of Chengdu, and recognized as a National Model District by the central government.
